Spider Glass

Spider Glass Fitting

SPIDER GLASS is a modern solution for exterior bolted glass assemblies, which secures the glazing to a support structure by means of point-fixings The high-grade stainless steel fixings are designed to absorb all static and dynamic loads (i.e. the dead weight of the glass, wind loading, snow loads and differential expansion due to temperature difference) and distribute them to the support structure.

Intermediate elements which are inserted between the bolt and the glass ensure:
  • uniform transmission of stresses whilst avoiding local stresses;
  • a watertight facade.

The system incorporates SECUREPOINT (specially toughened) glass.

SPIDER GLASS is now also certified as blast-enhanced to ISO 16933 “Glass in Building – Explosion resistant security glazing – Test and classification for arena air blast loading”.

Range

For monolithic glass, SPIDER GLASS consists of an articulated bolt-fixing which is secured to a support structure to ensure that the glazing is firmly fixed in position. Use of such bolts permits movement in all directions. Each fitting is carefully fitted into a countersunk hole and is secured flush into the exterior surface of the glass. Laminated glass, in the form of STADIP SPIDER GLASS (combined with heat-strengthened glass) can also be used with SPIDER GLASS fittings and ensures the integrity of the glass in the event of accidental breakage. Double glazed SPIDER GLASS incorporates a SECUREPOINT (specially toughened) outer leaf with either a toughened or laminated inner. The units can incorporate any of the COOL-LITE or PLANITHERM products. Most glass products from the SAINT-GOBAIN GLASS range can be used with SPIDERGLASS:

Whilst Smart Glass is of course a privacy solution, this does not mean that privacy equals darkness – in many privacy applications, privacy is required whereas a total blackout is not. Environments that require such a solution often look to things such as blinds, which can in many cases offer adjustable light levels but still have a trade off in terms of total privacy, allowing people to see through blinds that are partially tilted. Smart Glass offers a fantastic way to combat this; in offering total privacy without totally blocking outside light, offices, homes, retail stores and many other environments can be afforded total privacy when their glass is switched off. In the daylight, due to the way the technology works, some light still penetrates the glass without allowing visibility through it and depending where the glass is installed in relation to the sun, a slight hue of light comes through on the glass, acting as a natural, energy free, gentle light source for the room itself. For an office or home environment, this exposure to natural light could be of incredible importance to the mood of the occupants. However, it is not just the mood of occupants that we should be focusing on. Business leaders already take note of the benefits of natural light to productivity in a business setting however this can be easily foregone in exchange for privacy. With Smart Glass, this issue is rendered solved by offering not only the best of both worlds when switched off, but also a switchable level of privacy, as the glass can be switched to clear at any moment to bathe employees in the maximum benefits of daylight that clear Switchable Smart Glass has to offer.

  • PLANICLEAR clear float glass or DIAMANT extra-clear glass.
  • PARSOL body-tinted glass.
  • COOL-LITE CLASSIC, COOL-LITE ST or COOL-LITE K or SK*, ANTELIO solar control glass.
  • PLANITHERM low-emissivity glass.
  • EMALIT EVOLUTION* enameled glass.
  • EMALIT EVOLUTION* enameled glass.

It is possible to use BIO CLEAN self-cleaning glass depending on the type of sealants used. * If these products are used, they are subject to specific requirements. The spectrophotometric performance of SPIDERGLASS corresponds to that of the glazing which constitutes the system.

SPIDER GLASS fittings contribute to the creation of all-glass assemblies and innovative projects. With SPIDERGLASS, the glass is not set in frames like traditional constructions, but held in place by point-fixings, thus creating innovative aesthetic all-glass facades.

Maximum transparency

All-glass structures can be created, ensuring interiors are generously provided with natural light. When refurbishing older buildings, the clarity of the glass allows the original structure to be exposed in its true form.

SPIDER GLASS is a complete system for bolted glass structures. The complete package includes the glass, fixings, fasteners and SPIDER brackets for connection to the framework or structure.

The size of the supporting structure must be adequate to take the weight of the glass and the wind load conditions so it does not put any strain on the glass itself. The glass needs to withstand the wind loads and imposed dead loads. There must be a gap between the two panes of glass to avoid transmitting stresses and to allow space for the mastic weather seal. Various types of support structures are possible. Seal: Panes must be sealed using a silicone mastic applied to an extruded silicone seal. (e.g. HYDROSTOP seal developed by SAINT-GOBAIN GLASS).
